A new landscape to be configured in multiple scenarios to maximise the use of space
Parco Gallery is the graphic design gallery and bookshop of Parco Studio, graphic design practice founded in Milan by Loredana Bontempi and Emanuele Bonetti. A meeting place for international and local professional designers, a center of exchange and collaboration in between designers, schools, locals and lovers from the neighbourhood. Events and exhibitions are constant opportunities for research and experimentation. They are accompanied by a selection of objects and publications – books, magazines and fanzines – curated by Emanuele and Loredana together with the Parco team, as well as a series of self-initiated and self-published projects by the studio.
We met Loredana and Emanuale in 2021 during the development of the project for Magnete a new community center in Milan's Adriano district, we designed the interior design while Parco the new visual identity. During this project we realized that we could do something very nice together.
The multiplicity of uses, functions and souls of this space was our starting point. The intervention is composed of a fixed part of furniture with a series of shelves and wall supports and an intervention for display cases, a new device for dialogue between inside and outside that can in fact be a display or a seat. Another part of the objects are furniture, conceived as a new landscape to be configured in multiple scenarios trying to maximise the use of space. In addition to selling books, magazines, and objects Parco Gallery is also a space for events, talks, workshops, a gallery, a meeting room and a party room. The configuration of these elements makes it possible to completely transform the gallery without compromising the sale of the objects, thus enabling the transition from a completely free space to a meeting room to a marketplace. These objects are functional, warm, low tech and material.
For many years we have been working on the concept of nomadism, this project also follows this line of thought of ours. The 'furniture project is very solid and has been designed for multiple uses, one thing we like to tell is that all the objects can also be moved on the street with the ambition of becoming a traveling neighborhood bookstore.
A special thanks goes to Caterina Regni our favorite Art director who helped us to tell this project at its best by working on this series of shots that tell the system of objects we designed as an urban landscape to be climbed and experienced !
