In dialogue with the artist and the curators, we worked on a set design as a relationship tool that tries to unite artworks, space and audience
The exhibition is organized in two phases. In the first, on the ground floor,we thought of intervening in the gallery space by creating a new geometry through a "sky-ground" system of supporting the works. The decision to adopt this system came from the structure of the exhibition space with its vaulted ceilings, which allowed us to get rid of the walls and bring the two works to the center of the space, triggering a direct dialogue with the visitor.
Presenting different evolutions of Lucia Cantò's (Pescara, 1995) lines of research, 'Stars Supporting Other Stars' focuses in particular on two aspects that characterise the artist's most recent production: the vase as a signifying presence in a space and the possible ways of collaborating with a temporary community.
"Edilizia di un pensiero," in the first room, is suspended in midair and welcomes the visitors.
The sculpture "Stellario" is suspended in the center of the second room. For this work, we created a scenography that would allow us to enhance the materials, geometries and details of this work and isolate it from the context at the same time thanks to a system of photographic backdrops.
In the second phase, on the upper floor, the installation is changeable, an open system of objects and modular elements that allow the creation of multiple scenarios, following the different phases of the artist's intervention, from workshops to the final exhibition. Shapes and colors are in synergy with the works and create different color landscapes in dialogue with the natural and symbolic elements in the works. The installation is made of metal tubing, wooden tops, paper and 3D printing
On the first floor a series of modules serve for the different layouts depending on the activity scheduled, at first as a workshop then to expose the outcomes and at the same time shape a collective workspace. The workshops held by the artist involved the local community in manufacturing objects with clay, discussions and other activities that gathered people together.
The versatility of some elements that can furnish the space as seats, tables, storages was the keypoint for our design.
These modules can be stacked one on top of another, following the rule that one serves as a seating module, two a table and three or more a storage unit. The modules can be disassembled quickly, and they fold themselves without occupying too much space.
