Mobile display design as an infrastructure to support and showcase Rebecca Moccia's artistic works
Ministry of Loneliness is a 2-year research-based project of Rebecca Moccia that investigates the universe of loneliness and its politicisation in neoliberal society through a series of powerful and delicate video, sculpture, and photographic prints.
We worked in a continuous dialogue with the artist on a set of display devices, a mobile infrastructure made by a set elements. Four devices that accommodate the artist's works, through their form , material, and colour, they remember and wink some archetypes of furnishings that are ubiquitous in public offices throughout the Western world.
Thanks to the very technical and linear profiles the modularity of the display offered the artist the possibility to adapt the layout of the artworks to any possible corner of the structures
As main work from the artist, a three channels video is looping on three gaming screens. The influence from gamers' hikikomori aesthetics and the office look were our interpretation of Rebecca Moccia’s work.
The video installation has been produced by Careof, in collaboration with Fondazione ICA, Milan. A single-channel screening version was also released by the artist.
The Ministry of Loneliness project has been supported by the Italian Council (10th edition, 2021), a program by the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture and Outset Partners Grant. It has been realized in partnership with Jupiter Woods and Outset England,(UK), Magazzino Italian Art,(USA), Italian Embassy, Tokyo (Japan), Fondazione ICA, Milan (Italy).
