Floor lamp designed for De Castelli
The surface of the diffuser was in fact the starting point for the design of this lamp, the attempt was to reintroduce an archaic sheet metal process, which at the same time was part of the history of De Castelli
Ribot lamp has been the opportunity to study some old metal processing techniques, which has became part of the company history. The diffusor is realized with an elliptical brass shape warped through “hammering”. A pre-industrial deforming technique that allows to create complex surfaces. It modifies a metal sheet through different hammers and supports made with several shapes and materials.
The deformation of the sheet metal through hammering serves to shape the diffuser until it becomes a paraboloid. A shape that helps to direct but at the same time spread it thanks to its texture
The diffuser is then supported by a tubular and a counterweight also made of brass, perfectly balanced to facilitate the movement of the diffuser fixed in a fork
The double curves diffusor shape amplifies and directs the light produced by the LED light source making it soft, vibrant, warm and lightweight like a fluid surface. The diffusor is fixed to a balance structure, made of brass, supported by a slender tripod structure made of painted steal.
The lighting source is LED, a generally cold and flat light, the diffuser, through its shape and material, has the aim of making it a warm, vibrant and lively light.
After hammering and surface finishing by polishing, a protective transparent varnish is applied
