Design of a site specific installation that creates a dialogue between Triennale garden and the exhibition inside
"Deep Steward" by Ian Ingram and Theun Karelse, an interation of an AI programme that develops its own logic for categorizing the living environment it observes through a camera.
Part of the 23a Triennale di Milano Unknown Unknowns we designed a site specific installation for the exhibition “Have we met? humans and non-humans on common ground” contribution by the Het Nieuwe Instituut curated by Klaas Kuitenbrouwer and Ellen Zoete.
Our contribution is an instrument of dialogue between the Triennale garden and the exhibition inside, the installation extends from one of the columns of the building, on the side facing the garden, we designed it for the project.
Since the exhibition was taking place for several months, the need to maintain and fix the camera was solved thanks to a pivoting system similar to those of massive steel gates.
The structure is made with a special attention to parasitic architectures and billboards. On the top part there is a 360° camera that can freely have access to the view of the garden and the imposing trees that face the building.
Detail of the screen indoor, that shows all the footage captured by the camera and elaborated by the AI that is at the core of this work.
The color of this sign looking parasitic structure has been chosen as complementary of the Triennale façade, but in connection with the sky and the garden.
